Lori Goldman
is a textile artist that has been working with wool since she was 12 years old. She has her B.A. in textiles from San Francisco State University and her M.A. in sculpture from SFSU as well. She has designed and sold sweaters for 3 sweater companies around the country.

Lori has taught everything from spinning yarn to knitted sculpture for 30 years, privately, at the California College of Art and at numerous bay area yarn stores. She has also run a children's art camp for 6 years (focusing on the textile arts) and has been an instructor at a public school in Oakland teaching 350 children a week.

Her inspiration comes from the body, organic forms in nature, birth and life cycles. She has continued to be fascinated by fiber and ancient non-loom ways of creating a "fabric" such as felt making (matted wool) knot-less netting, coiling, sewing and of course knitting and crocheting.

She loves the challenge of liberating women's work and creating art. Recently Lori has been playing with socks ... knitting with them unraveled and stitching them as a fabric skin. Her work is about texture with a heartfelt expression of her humble life as a mother and woman artist.

The button bracelets began as a gift idea for four of Lori's friends upon turning 40. She decided to create a wearable sculpture with their color, mood and personality in mind ... all rhinestone for Judy, mother of pearl for Robyn, etc. She gathered antique buttons as well as buttons from all over the world to create these one-of-a-kind bracelets. By encrusting them on hand crocheted cotton bands, each piece becomes a piece of art!
